Biologists argue - if my scant knowledge of that fascinating discipline is correct - that heterosexual procreation is so common because the mixing of genes and hence possible adaptations are much stronger than in the asexual processes. Diversity is usually beneficial, vive la différence!<br /><br />I would not consider it inconceivable to predict the demise of Homo sapiens on grounds of its mental activity - whether through misguided scientific experimentation, or fundamentalist religious morals, or overdevelopment of individualism or, well, gender equalisation with the concomitant loss of libido.<br /><br />As regards gender equalisation - nowadays even Jesus Christ is referred to as "She" in some gospel translations! - I am happy to stick to English und recommend that to Leipzig U. Of course, there is no word in English for a professor of the female gender. I know that's not supposed to be an argument. But when my students address a female colleague or me, they anyway say "Prof". That's as far as possible removed from gender. So let's all be profs (forget the period, no pun intended) and let's leave the differences between us for after-hours!Walter A. Auenoreply@blogger.com
