Neujahrs - Nachtrag

with just a false translation



Ich schätze derartige Bemerkungen nicht besonders, sie erfolgen nur, um falsche Gründe abzuwehren, mich zu hassen (berechtigte werden natürlich gern respektiert) – ich bin seit spätestens gestern etwas malade, nichts Ernstes, aber, für diejenigen, die sich kürzlich an mich erinnert hatten, und ich hatte mehr als einmal Gelegenheit, mich aufrichtig zu freuen (mitunter überrascht) - das Ausbleiben einer Antwort hat diesmal weniger mit meiner charakterlichen Trägheit zu tun.


Nach meiner netten Einladung zu Silvester und dem repektheischenden Menü schäme ich beinahe, hier von meinen Kochversuchen zu berichten, wie auch immer. Aber unser Neujahrs-Menü wollen wir dennoch tapfer nachtragen. Die Kräuterkruste auf dem Schweinebraten sieht zwar verbrannt aus (sie war zum Glück nur kurz davor - eine Menge Kräuter vermischt mit Butter und Senf und etwas Ketchup - horribile dictu - oben drauf geschmiert) auf einem Bett von Zwiebeln, frischem Oregano und Thymian und Rosmarin. Dazu Blumenkohl, und (herrlich, das war das erste Mal, daß mir ein deutscher Begriff nicht einfiel und ich habe den englischen googeln müssen, dieses Gehirn wird wohl gerade Matsch) - Rosenkohl.


Dies findet wohl besser schnell ein Ende. Die Sauce aus dem Fond bekam noch etwas Balsamico-Essig ab und wurde mir Rotwein abgelöscht. Sogar meine konservativ-mecklenburgische Frau Mutter wollte auf jeden Fall noch etwas von der Sauce, na wenn das nichts ist.

Alles Gute soweit, mir gehen einige Namen im Kopf herum, keine Floskel also – schicke meine guten Wünsche als Gedanken gerade hinaus.

I don´t appreciate remarks of that kind particularly, to be honest, it is only to ward off false reasons to hate me (justifiable ones are gladly respected of course) - I feel at least since yesterday a tiny wee bit unpleasant, just a little, nothing serious, but for those who had recently remembered me (sometimes surprisingly) and there was more than one occasion - the absence of a response this time has to do less with the laziness that’s hidden in my character.

I had a really kind invitation to New Year's Eve and after this impressing menu I almost feel ashamed to report here on my cooking experiments, however. But I should add our New Year's menu I think. The herb crust on the pork roast may look burned (but it wasn’t, it stopped fortunately briefly before - mixing a lot of herbs with butter and mustard and some ketchup - horribile dictu - & smeared it up on it) on a bed of onions, fresh oregano and thyme and rosemary. And cauliflower and (how wonderful, that was the first time that a German term didn’t occur to me and I had to google the English term, this brain is probably just getting mush) - Brussels sprouts.

So we better end this quickly. The sauce from the gravy got some balsamic vinegar a well and was deglazed with red wine. Even my elderly old fashioned Mecklenburg mother wanted a bit more of it (several times), well if that's nothing.

I suppose the ketchup helps hold the herb crust in place during the cooking. The price you pay is the tendency of the sugars to burn. Glad you dodged that bullet.

That's interesting: that Rosenkohl didn't come to along with Blumenkohl. Funny, the things our brains do, or don't do sometimes.

Well we (brother and I) had boiled lobsters on New Year's Eve, and since then, it's been mostly leftover turkey. He went back to Boston yesterday, and I've still got a lot left, but I may give up after one more meal (tomorrow, when I get home from the symphony concert.

@naturgesetz There is a certain kind of tiredness for several weeks now, but I deeply hate to complain about trivialities. It was only a try to explain my lack of responses a bit.
The funny part was, you know my lousy English, this was the first time I remembered a certain word in English but not in German, strange.
I hope I already sent my best wishes for the New Year to you. I’m pretty sure in my mind I did. Thank you for being such a loyal friend!
