Meine Gedanken haben heute ein wenig mäandert, das ist jetzt die Abbreviatur. Johann Rist starb am 31. August 1667 und ich überlegte, woher meine Sympathie für die Barockliteratur stammen könnte, nun woher wohl, von Bach und den Traditionsresten, die sich in der lutherischen Kirche meiner Kindheit, in der ich aufwuchs, noch erhalten hatten. Daher also dieses Stück von Bach “O Ewigkeit, du Donnerwort“, nach einem geistlichen Gedicht von Rist, das sich früher im evangelischen Gesangbuch fand, so daß ich es noch kennenlernen durfte, aber auch diese unerfreuliche Gegenwart wird bald vorüber sein. Es gibt eine sehr verdienstvolle englischsprachige Website, die aufzeigt, was Bach von dem originalen Text verwendete. Und dann fand ich noch diesen erstaunlichen Text über Bach in der NZZ, fast eine Art Glaubensbekenntnis.
My thoughts today were meandering a bit, that now is the abbreviation. Johann Rist died on August 31th 1667 and I wondered where my sympathy could come from to the Baroque literature, well surprise, from Bach and the tradition remains, which still exist in the Lutheran church of my childhood, where I was growing up. So therefore this piece of Bach "O eternity, you word of thunder", after a spiritual poem of Rist, which took place earlier in the Protestant hymnal, so that I became aware of it yet, but this unpleasant presence will be over soon too, what a relieving expectation. There is a very commendable English based website, which shows what Bach used from the original text. And then I found this amazing text about Bach in the NZZ (only in German sorry), almost a confession.
